ONLOOKERS

Solo exhibition at Nickle Galleries, University of Calgary, 2016.

The work lies at the intersection of sculpture, drawing, and photography, where repeated shapes and images form a topology to inform our understanding, or misunderstanding, of the world.

Photographic images were traced/cut/projected/layered and ultimately transformed into a series of 10, three-dimensional solid brass sculptures. The 30 pound bodily shapes seemingly float in front of the wall with their projected shadows and patina surfaces. The sculptures are coupled with black and white photographs (reminiscent of a photogram) that document a bodily absence and ultimately, loss. If the brass shapes are an artifact of what once ‘was’, the photograph is evidence of what has been forgotten.
